Hometown Fair:

  • Application
    • Get application from Hometown Fair web site and note due date
    • Decide whether to participate in lottery for soft drinks, water or beer garden
      • Not sure what revenue is from soft drinks or water or whether church would have a problem with us being associated with the beer garden
      • Not sure if doing this would hurt our short or long term chances for retaining pepper bellies
    • Decide whether to apply for Pepper Bellies or something new
    • Decide whether to apply for two adjacent spots or just one
      • Benefits of two spots:
        • Can handle more people and hence more business during prime lunch hour (when most business comes in and queues develop)
      • Benefits of one spot:
        • Booth is less desolate during slow times
        • Saves cost of extra booth ($70 as of 2007)
    • Submit application and be sure to include request for two electrical hookups (need one circuit per cooker)

Cabinet Recruitment:

  • Decide on cabinet, considering:
    • Whether to combine positions or not
    • Balance of new and experienced members
    • A group of people you'd like to spend time with
    • Including one or two couples who could benefit from the increased level of participation (e.g. who have been relatively inactive in the club recently)
  • Visit each couples house "by surprise" in the evening with a bottle of wine or champagne and, optionally, a set of glasses
    • Some skippers have produced "custom glasses" for their year and provided them as gifts
  • Be sure to wear your skipper hat
  • Bring a copy of their position duties to give them and bring a copy of all position duties to reference in case they have questions

Cabinet Meetings:

  • Typically held monthly, rotating between cabinet members' houses
  • Typically includes dinner
  • Not just for "business" - a significant part of the social element of being on a cabinet
  • Initial meeting typically used to select theme, lay out basic calendar for the year and outline skit for year-in-review meeting
  • Assign responsibility to design logo and produce banner

Storage:

  • Mariners shares part of an outdoor church storage locak at the northwest corner of Aviation and Rosecrans
  • Mariners has a file cabinet at the back of the hall just outside the Green Room in the Community Hall
  • The Mariners potluck tags are kept in the storage closet between the restrooms in the Community Hall
  • There is a plastic bin with paper records that is the responsibility of the Skippers
  • There is a plastic bin with the Mariners rope that is the responsibility of the Skippers
  • There is a www.mbccmariners.com website
  • There is a www.mbccmariners.org wiki website

Incoming Cabinet Exchange:

  • Typically held in August
  • Just relax and enjoy
  • Planned for by outgoing cabinet

Year In Review

  • Put on skit introducing theme and cabinet
